No. 13 Michigan State vs. Nicholls State: Spartans crush Colonels
Michigan State bounced back from a disappointing loss to Miami (Fla.) earlier this week by easily taking care of Nicholls State 84-39 in East Lansing Saturday. Keith Appling led the Spartans with 13 points.

For the Spartans, the star of the afternoon was guard Keith Appling. The junior from Detroit finished the game with 13 points, while freshmen Gary Harris and Denzel Valentine finished with 11 each as well. Adreian Payne added 10 off the bench for the Spartans, who improved to 6-2 with the victory.
And the win was an important one for Michigan State, after Wednesday’s loss in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge to Miami.
In that game, the Spartans got off to a hot start and took a 31-27 lead into halftime, before the Hurricanes outscored them by 12 after intermission. In the loss, the Spartans allowed Miami to shoot a surprising 47.7 percent from the field, but bounced back by holding Nicholls State to just 29.4 percent on Saturday.
Michigan State will next play Wednesday, when they host Arkansas Pine-Bluff at 8 p.m. ET.
