Mike Moser injury: UNLV star could be back in a month

The Rebels forward is expected to miss a month after dislocating his elbow on Sunday night and should return just in time for conference play to start.

Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports

The UNLV Runnin' Rebels expect forward Mike Moser back in a month after he dislocated his elbow on Sunday, UNLV coach Dave Rice told the Las Vegas Sun.

Moser was injured in a 76-75 win over California less than five minutes into the game scrambling for a loose ball. An X-ray on his arm proved negative for a fracture or a break for the junior forward. Moser had just missed the previous game over the Portland Pilots with a hip injury.

Moser is averaging 10.9 points and 8.3 rebounds a game. Rehabilitation for dislocated elbows usually involves a series of small movement and range exercises, but also takes a decent amount of time.

Until then, the Rebels will be without one of their captains and a key part of their frontcourt. After sitting out a year in 2010-2011 following his transfer from UCLA, Moser averaged 14 points and 10.5 rebounds a game last year.

Assuming Moser’s rehab goes off without a hitch, his one-month absence would end on January 9, when UNLV opens conference play against New Mexico.
