No. 9 Kansas vs. Belmont final score: Jayhawks cruise to 89-60 win

Ben McLemore, Andrew White III and Travis Releford each added 17 points to the Kansas total.

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

The No. 9 Kansas Jayhawks earned a big lead early against the Belmont Bruins and cruised to a 89-60 victory at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kan. to improve to 8-1 overall.

Kansas allowed just five points in the first 6:30 of the game as they jumped out to a 16-5 lead. The Jayhawks never looked back and increased the lead to as many as 41 points in the second half as four players tallied double-digit points in the rout. Leading the way for the Jayhawks were freshman Ben McLemore, freshman Andrew White III and senior Travis Releford, each of whom finished with 17 points for Kansas.

From beyond the arc Belmont struggled mightily, hitting just 8-of-38 3-point attempts. The Bruins’ leading scorer entering the game, Ian Clark, managed just five points, while turning the ball over four times.

Following the victory, the Jayhawks will have three days off before a home game on Tuesday against the Richmond Spiders. Belmont will look to bounce back on Wednesday with a home game against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.
