No. 7 Ohio State vs. Winthrop final score: Buckeyes stay unbeaten at home, 65-55

Ohio State only led by one point at the half but slowly pulled away from Winthrop in the second to stay unbeaten at home.

For the first half, the Ohio State Buckeyes couldn't do anything to shake the Winthrop Eagles. In the second half, the Eagles just couldn't keep up as the Buckeyes won 65-55 on Tuesday night.

The Buckeyes jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first half but it would be their largest for the first 20 minutes as the Eagles fought back to trail 31-30 going into halftime. The teams kept trading buckets until the Buckeyes slowly but surely started to pull away with 11 minutes left in the game to stay unbeaten at home.

Buckeyes forward Deshaun Thomas led all scorers with 21 points, but was one of only two Buckeyes to reach double figures. He shot 7-for-21 from the field and added nine rebounds and four assists. Lenzelle Smith Jr. added 14 points as the team struggled to make shots, shooting just 38.6 percent from the floor and 6-for-21 from three-point range.

Tenacious defense kept Ohio State in the game, though. The Buckeyes forced 14 turnovers and held the Eagles to 38 percent shooting, allowing only one player to reach double figures. Winthrop guard Derrick Henry led the Eagles with 12 points.
