No. 23 North Carolina vs. McNeese State final score: Tar Heels tear through McNeese State, win 97-63

The Tar Heels (9-3) moved to 6-0 at home Saturday with an easy, 97-63 victory over the McNeese St. Cowboys.

No. 23 North Carolina took it to McNeese State Saturday to earn a 97-63 victory at home in the first-ever meeting between these programs.

P.J. Hairston lead both teams in scoring with 20, but Reggie Bullock wasn't far behind with 17 of his own. The Tar Heels also drained 13 three pointers on the day, shooting 46.4 percent from downtown compared to 17.6 percent (3-of-17) for the visiting Cowboys.

Jeremie Mitchell provided the most offense for McNeese State with 13 (5-of-6 shooting), but unfortunately he was the only one able to get in a rhythm on the floor as the rest of the team combined to shoot 31.3 percent (21-of-67).

The Tar Heels had this game in the books at halftime with a 54-23 lead thanks to some excellent ball movement. North Carolina assisted on 18 of it's 20 made field goals in the first twenty minutes with Marcus Paige pacing the way with a final total of nine.

Head coach Roy Williams elected to treat the rest of the game like a scrimmage with an audience, allowing a grand total of 15 Tar Heels to see the court. With the second and third stringers in, North Carolina’s bench fell just 12 points shy of single-handedly outscoring the entire Cowboys team by themselves.

The Tar Heels now have a week off in between games due to the holidays. They’ll take the court again next Saturday at 2 p.m. ET when they play host to the UNLV Rebels.
