No. 15 Georgetown dominated American University on both sides of the ball Saturday, as the Hoyas cruised to a 65-48 victory over the Eagles at the Verizon Center.

No. 15 Georgetown jumped out to a big lead on Saturday against American University and cruised in the second half to a 65-48 win.


The Hoyas’ offense got going early, with their hot shooting giving them a double-digit lead just over five minutes into the game. Georgetown (10-1) never really looked back, taking a 40-25 lead into the break and blowing things open early in the second half before taking the foot off the gas pedal late. For the game, the Hoyas shot 44.2 percent from the field, although it was above 50 percent for a majority of the afternoon. They also nailed 10-of-20 from three-point land.
Otto Porter led a balanced Georgetown attack which got solid contributions from a bunch of different players. Porter notched a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Greg Whittington added 13 points.
On the other end, Georgetown held American (4-8) to just 28.6 percent shooting. The Eagles’ only real source of offense was three-pointers, as they nailed eight on the day. Daniel Munoz scored 15 points in the loss.
