No. 5 Indiana vs. Iowa final score: Hoosiers avoid road upset, 69-65

Indiana often dominated its non-conference schedule, but the Hoosiers just got their first taste of what Big Ten basketball should be like this season. Does a narrow 69-65 win in Iowa City have Indiana looking vulnerable?

Reese Strickland-USA TODAY Sports

Playing on the road for the first time this season, the fifth-ranked Indiana Hoosiers narrowly avoided an upset at the hands of the Iowa Hawkeyes, 69-65. Beginning Big Ten play after a relatively dominant stretch of non-conference play, the Hoosiers looked surprisingly vulnerable against one of the conference's mid-tier squads.

Mired in a slow defensive battle on the road, the Hoosiers struggled to get going on offense throughout the game, depending on quality defense to hold off the Hawkeyes’ attempts to rally. The Hoosiers held Iowa to just 33 percent shooting from the field and 18 percent shooting from three-point range.

While he didn't always dominate, Cody Zeller had another solid game for the Hoosiers, leading all scorers with 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting in addition to grabbing 10 rebounds before fouling out. Victor Oladipo also had a double-double for Indiana, contributing 14 points and 10 rebounds to the win.

Aaron White led Iowa in scoring with 15 points and six rebounds, plus Roy Devyn Marble added 14 points and nine rebounds despite shooting just 1 of 14 from the field. Marble was 12 of 13 from the free throw line, nearly hitting as many free throws by himself as the entire Hoosiers team combined.
