The No. 17 San Diego State Aztecs cruised to a 7-1 record with a 84-70 dominating win against the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos on Thursday night.

Senior guard Chase Tapley led the Aztecs with 23 points, three rebounds and three assists against the UCSB Gauchos.


While UCSB got out to a 5-4 lead early, the Aztecs went on a 14-0 run to quickly put the Gauchos in an 18-5 hole and never looked back. By halftime, SDSU had earned a 46-29 lead and the team gave extended minutes to bench players in the second half. After a 12-0 run by UCSB cut the lead to 14 in the second half, the starting lineup for the Aztecs came back in to the game and sealed the game with a 7-0 run.
Four different players for San Diego State finished in double-figures, including senior guard Chase Tapley, who finished with a team-high 23 points, along with three rebounds and three assists. Foul trouble proved costly for the Gauchos in the game, as Alan Williams, Taran Brown and Michael Bryson each fouled out and UCSB accumulated a total of 22 personal fouls.
Both SDSU and UCSB will have more than a week off before the two teams return to the court on Saturday, Dec. 15. The Aztecs will stay at home to play the San Diego Toreros, and the Gauchos will host the San Diego Christian Hawks.
