No. 19 Georgetown vs. St. John’s final score: Hoyas rout Red Storm, 67-51

Georgetown imposed its will on St. John’s in the Garden on Saturday, holding the Johnnies to 36-percent shooting in a blowout victory.

USA TODAY Sports

The No. 19 Georgetown Hoyas easily dispatched of the St. John's Red Storm on Saturday morning, walking out of Madison Square Garden in New York City with a 67-51 victory.

Georgetown dominated the game from the start, jumping out to a 33-10 lead at the 6:31 mark in the first half, and never looked back. Otto Porter Jr. scored 13 first-half points to lead the charge, and finished the game with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Markel Starks pitched in 17 points for the Hoyas, who won their first Big East game of the season.

St. John's struggled to get anything going offensively, shooting just 36 percent from the floor while going 3-for-15 from beyond the three-point line. The Red Storm didn't make a three-point basket until the 2:06 mark in the second half. Jamal Branch led the Johnnies with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting.

Things got a bit testy at certain points throughout the game, with multiple double-fouls being called in the second half. The two teams will meet again on Feb. 2 in Washington, D.C.

Georgetown (11-3) will return home to face Providence on Wednesday, while St. John’s (9-7) hosts No. 17 Notre Dame on Tuesday.
