No. 5 Indiana vs. No. 8 Minnesota final score: Hoosiers defeat Gophers, 88-81

Indiana survived a huge second-half rally from Minnesota to keep its unblemished record in Big Ten play intact.

USA TODAY Sports

The No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers escaped with an 88-81 victory over the No. 8 Minnesota Golden Gophers in Big Ten college basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Indiana led by 23 points at halftime, but Minnesota embarked on a massive second-half rally, eventually getting to within three points of the Hoosiers with 19.5 seconds remaining. Indiana followed with a pair of missed free throws, but secured the offensive rebound and knocked down the ensuing foul shots to seal the victory.

Indiana initially distanced itself from Minnesota with a 21-4 run in the latter part of the first half. The Gophers made nearly half of their shots in the opening half, but the Hoosiers forced them to turn the ball over 12 times in taking a 52-29 lead into the intermission. Indiana already had three players reach double-figures in scoring before halftime as the Hoosiers shot better than 60 percent from the floor prior to the break.

Victor Oladipo led the Hoosiers with 20 points and six rebounds, shooting 8-for-10 from the floor. All five of Indiana’s starters scored in double figures, as the unit combined for 85 of the team’s 88 points.

Minnesota’s Andre Hollins led all scorers with 25 points in the losing effort.
