Louisville confuses shot clock buzzer with game clock buzzer

The Cardinals had a team-wide brain fart that led to an easy two points for Connecticut, as they mixed up the shot clock buzzer with the game clock buzzer near the end of the first half on Monday.

Either Bobby Knight needs to be less embarrassed about his brain siesta on the shot clock, or the Louisville Cardinals need to be a bit more sheepish after a collective brain fart occurred at the end of the first half in their 73-58 win over Connecticut on Monday.

Louisville trailed by four points on what was almost the final possession of the half, but mistook the shot clock buzzer for the game clock’s, and started to walk towards the locker room. The Huskies rebounded the ball and quickly put it back in the hoop to extend their halftime lead to six.

Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino was a bit upset with his team, and the fire he lit motivated the team to a strong second half.

It was an embarrassing mental lapse for the Cardinals. But if it makes them feel any better, legendary coach Bob Knight and current ESPN announcer had a similar mental lapse last week in Kentucky’s win over Vanderbilt. Unfortunately, his was much more verbal and much more painful to listen to. Knight’s continued befuddlement begins about 1:08 into the video below.
