No. 4 Kansas vs. Baylor final score: Kansas hands Baylor first Big 12 loss, 61-44

Kansas stayed undefeated in league play as the Baylor Bears couldn’t buy a bucket to save their lives on Monday night.

USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas Jayhawks handed the Baylor Bears their first Big 12 loss with a dominating 61-44 win on Monday night.

The Bears ended up with more turnovers (14) than field goals (13) on Monday. At one point in the first half, Kansas guard Ben McLemore had as many field goals (3-for-6) as the entire Baylor team (3-for-16).

McLemore scored 17 for the game before leaving late in the second half after an apparent ankle injury. However, possible good news for Jayhawks fans is that he was able to walk off the court.

The Bears were trying to start conference play 4-0 for the second consecutive year but had a hard time putting the ball in the basket as Kansas’ defense swatted away everything in sight. Baylor’s 44 points were the team’s lowest scoring output of the season.

The Jayhawks came into the game blocking 7.8 shots per game, good for second in the nation. They finished the game with 13 blocks spread over six players, and a big first-half lead was enough to keep Baylor at bay.

It was the 31st straight victory at Allen Fieldhouse for Kansas, which struggled from the field, shooting 37.7 percent. Kansas didn’t shoot nearly as bad as Baylor did, however. Baylor was just 23.2 percent from the field, going 13 for 56. They were 28.6 percent from the three-point line and 60.9 percent from the free-throw line. Center Isaiah Austin led the team from the floor, hitting just 6-of-15 for 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

It was an uncharacteristic night for Baylor, which entered the game second in the Big 12 with a 47.2 percent field-goal percentage.
