Brent Musburger calls Holly Rowe ‘smoking’ on air

A week after a controversy involving his comments over A.J. McCarron’s girlfriend, Katherine Webb, Brent Musburger made waves again Monday night. But was it tongue-in-cheek this time?

Jamie Squire

Brent Musburger turned himself into national news with comments on the girlfriend of Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron during the BCS title game last week. On Monday, the ESPN broadcaster again made remarks on the attractiveness of a female -- perhaps this time with a wink to his own controversy.

Just a week removed from turning Katherine Webb into an Internet sensation, Musburger noted that ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe was “really smoking tonight.”

ESPN focused on Webb, mentioning that she was McCarron’s girlfriend, and that got Musburger going. He commented that she was a “lovely lady”, “beautiful” and that “you quarterbacks get all the good-looking women” in an moment many around the country deemed a cringe-worthy lavishing of praise. His comments caused the network to apologize later.
