Ole Miss stuns Vanderbilt, who can’t catch a break

Make it two heartbreaking home losses in a row for the Commodores, as the Rebels hit a 30-foot shot as time expired to send the game into OT, where they won 89-79.

USA TODAY Sports

It’s been a tough year for Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings, who’s had to rebuild his program after losing three players to the NBA.

They had a chance to upset Kentucky at home on Saturday, but lost 60-58 in part due to a controversial call on a shot clock violation. On Tuesday, they found an even tougher way to lose, this time to Ole Miss:

That shot from Marshall Henderson sent the game to OT and Ole Miss took over from there, beating Vanderbilt, 89-79. Henderson, a 6'3 junior guard, had a strong game on Tuesday, pouring in 26 points on 7-17 shooting.

The win moves the Rebels to 14-2 and 3-0 in the conference, as they’ve been the most surprising team in the SEC, which is way down from last year. One of the reasons has been the disappointing play of Vanderbilt, which had made three straight NCAA Tournament appearances before this season.
