Massachusetts suffered a huge loss this week when it was announced that junior Jesse Morgan tore his ACL, ending his season. The severity of Morgan's injury was unclear at first, as Harry Plumer notes that it was initially diagnosed as a knee sprain. But the announcement that Morgan had suffered the season-ending ligament tear came down on Tuesday.
UMass loses second-leading scorer Jesse Morgan to torn ACL
Jesse Morgan, the second-leading scorer on an 11-4 UMass team, will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

Derek Kellogg’s team started the season 11-4, but the loss of Morgan is a big blow to their hopes of contention in the Atlantic 10. The Minutemen are currently 1-1 in the league with conference play just starting up last week.
Morgan was averaging 13.4 points per game this season, one of three players on Kellogg's team in double figures. He combined with Chaz Williams in the backcourt to present a formidable scoring duo on the perimeter. But Morgan went down early in the A-10 opener against Saint Louis, and sat out the week with what was thought to be a sprain. Senior Freddie Mitchell and freshman Trey Davis are expected to pick up much of the slack in his absence.
