No. 25 Marquette vs. Cincinnati final score: Kilpatrick hits game winner as Bearcats knock off Eagles, 71-69

Sean Kilpatrick had a career-high 36 points, including the game-winning drive in the final seconds of overtime, as Cincinnati beat Marquette, 71-69, on Saturday night.

USA TODAY Sports

Sean Kilpatrick put on a show Saturday night in Cincinnati as the Bearcats outlasted No. 25 Marquette 71-69 in overtime. The junior guard had a career-high 36 points, including two on a drive in the final seconds of the extra period, to hold off a Golden Eagles team that made a furious second-half comeback after struggling to score early on.

To say Marquette got off to a modest offensive start would be an understatement. The Golden Eagles managed just 13 points in the first half and had only three with under nine minutes to play in the period.

That changed in the second half, however, when Vander Blue caught fire. Blue hit three triples in less than two minutes to follow a Trent Lockett layup that opened the half. All six of the Golden Eagles' three-point field goals came in the final 20 minutes, and Blue finished with a team-high 19 points. Marquette scored 50 in the second half when the offense finally woke up.

The Golden Eagles came all the way back on a pair of free throws from Davante Gardner with three seconds left in regulation. Marquette then got a steal on the ensuing inbounds pass but missed what would have been a game-winning heave to send it into overtime, where Kilpatrick eventually won it for Cincinnati.
