The No.8 Ohio State Buckeyes crushed the Nebraska Cornhuskers 70-44 in their Big Ten Conference opening game Wednesday night. The Buckeyes jumped out to an 18-7 lead in the game's first 12 minutes, then scored the final seven points of the half to take a 36-17 advantage into the locker room. Nebraska was more competitive in the second half, but never threatened a comeback.

Ohio State (11-2, 1-0) dominated the glass, outrebounding Nebraska 41-29. The Buckeyes also posted a 16:9 assist-to-turnover ratio and shot a solid 41.2 percent from behind the three-point arc. Deshaun Thomas led Ohio State with 22 points and eight rebounds, with Lenzelle Smith Jr. adding 17 points and six boards. Point guard Aaron Craft went scoreless on 0-of-4 shooting, but did distribute a season-high eight assists.

Nebraska (9-5, 0-1) shot just 30.9 percent from the field and 50 percent in just eight attempts from the free-throw line. The Huskers were also done in by 14 turnovers. Ray Gallegos was the only Cornhusker in double figures, scoring 14. Dylan Talley had nine points and four rebounds, and forward Brandon Ubel contributed six points, six boards and three assists.

Ohio State returns to action Saturday at No.11 Illinois. Nebraska next plays Sunday, when the Cornhuskers host Wisconsin.
