If the outcome was ever in question Wednesday evening at the Carrier Dome, a 21-0 Syracuse run to end the first half put any doubt to rest, as the Orange cruised to a 78-53 win over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Wednesday night. The Syracuse victory gave coach Jim Boeheim his 903rd career win, moving him past Bobby Knight for second all-time. The game was the Big East opener for both teams.
No. 7 Syracuse vs. Rutgers final score: Orange cruise past Scarlet Knights in Big East opener
The No. 7 Orange started their final Big East season in convincing fashion, disposing of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 78-53. With the win, coach Jim Boeheim moved to second on the all-time wins list.

Brandon Triche led the guard-oriented Orange with 25 points and was 5-of-7 from three-point range. He also had six assists and four steals. His backcourt mate Michael Carter-Williams scored 12 points and had 10 assists.
Eli Carter was the only player to produce big numbers for Rutgers. He had 19 points and was the only Scarlet Knight in double figures. Kadeem Jack, however, grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds off the bench and Rutgers held a 30-29 advantage on the boards.
With the win, No. 7 Syracuse has now won three straight since dropping its only game of the season to Temple on Dec. 22. Those three wins have come by an average of over 26 points per game. Rutgers, meanwhile, saw its five-game winning streak snapped and will look to right the ship at home on Jan. 5 against Pitt.
