Notre Dame vs. Georgetown final score: Hoyas pull off big road upset, 63-47

The Georgetown Hoyas’ defense harried the Notre Dame Fighting Irish into a terrible shooting performance to notch an upset on the road on Monday night.

Georgetown's defense hassled the No. 24 Notre Dame Fighting Irish into one of their worst shooting performances of the season as the Hoyas pulled off the 63-47 upset on Monday night.

Even without the Hoyas' second leading scorer and rebounder in Greg Whittington, the Hoyas held Irish forward Jack Cooley to just 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting.

The entire Notre Dame offense had a night to forget, as it went into halftime trailing by 13 points and started out the second half just as anemic. As a team, the Fighting Irish shot 34.7 percent from the floor and were just 2-for-16 from the three-point line.

Without Whittington, who was suspended indefinitely last week for academic issues, the Hoyas turned to forward Otto Porter, who stepped up in a big way. Porter, the team's leading scorer, finished the game with 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.

Freshman guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera added 14 points for the Hoyas, his second straight game with double-digit points.

It was a big win for the Hoyas who found themselves planted on the bubble, especially after Saturday’s loss to South Florida. It was the third loss in four games for Notre Dame.
