North Carolina suspends Leslie McDonald for three games

After dealing with a knee injury, academic issues will keep the Tar Heels fifth-leading scorer off the floor for three games.

Leslie McDonald has sat out the last three North Carolina Tar Heels games with what head coach Roy Williams described as a 'tweaked' right knee. Now, McDonald will sit out another three games but it's not because of an injury issue. The fifth-year senior will miss the next three games because of his 'performance as a student-athlete'. It's not clear at this point whether McDonald's suspension is related to academics. Williams said McDonald was medically cleared to play this week but will now sit out until early February.

"I'm disappointed for him and our team because he worked so hard to get back from his knee injury and has been a valuable contributor for us this season," Williams said. "He's a good kid and we look forward to his return."

McDonald has played in 14 games this season for the Tar Heels, averaging 8.4 points in 17.9 minutes per contest. He'll be eligible to return for North Carolina's Feb. 2 game against the Virginia Tech Hokies.
