No. 3 Syracuse vs. Villanova final score: Wildcats upset Orange, 75-71

Villanova fans stormed the court earlier this week after the Wildcats beat Louisville, but it looked like they’d miss out on an opportunity to do it again on Saturday. That is, until Ryan Arcidiacono stepped up.

USA TODAY Sports

Ryan Arcidiacono's game-tying three-pointer sent the Villanova Wildcats into overtime against the No. 3 Syracuse Orange, and the Wildcats carried the momentum into the extra period, resulting in a 75-71 win over the Orange. It was Villanova's second victory over a top-five team this week.

Arcidiacono finished just 3-for-12 from beyond the arc, but with two seconds remaining, he received a pass from Mouphtaou Yarou, who rebounded James Bell's miss, and drilled a shot in traffic, sending the crowd into a frenzy. That came after the Wildcats blew a 12-point first-half lead but rallied from several deficits of their own in the second half.

Jerami Grant was a big reason why Syracuse was even in the game at the end. He scored the first seven points in the second half for the Orange, turning a six-point halftime deficit into a one-point lead. The Orange could have used Grant's scoring down the stretch as Villanova continued to fight back, but the freshman fouled out with 5:22 remaining. He finished with 12 points and five rebounds off the bench.

Brandon Triche led Syracuse with 23 points, while Darrun Hilliard scored 25 points to pace Villanova. Yarou pitched in 14 points and 17 rebounds.

Syracuse will stay on the road next weekend, facing a meeting with Pitt on Feb. 2. Villanova will hit the road to take on Notre Dame on Wednesday.
