N.C. State were expected to beat in-state rival North Carolina, and the Wolfpack did not disappoint, controlling the game from the opening tip until the final few minutes en route to a 91-83 victory over the Tar Heels on Saturday night. The victory snapped a 13-game losing streak in the rivalry series for the Wolfpack.

In a game that wasn’t as close as the score indicated, N.C. State took care of in-state rival North Carolina, 91-83, behind 20 points from Lorenzo Brown.
The Wolfpack led by 19 at halftime and got a balanced offensive attack with five players in double figures. Freshman T.J. Warren scored all 19 of the Wolfpack's bench points on 9-12 shooting. Richard Howell and Lorenzo Brown each had double-doubles for N.C. State. Howell had 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Brown shared the ball well with 20 points and 11 assists.
But it wasn’t all positive for the Wolfpack, who gave up 57 points in the second half. If not for some late offense from North Carolina, the score might have been more lopsided. The Tar Heels trailed by 28 at one point, only to cut it to five in the final minute.
James Michael McAdoo had 13 points and 11 rebounds for North Carolina. Guard P.J. Hairston had 19 points, including five threes to help bring the Tar Heels closer. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Tar Heels, who looked like they might have been turning a corner after an inconsistent start to the year.
