The Miami Hurricanes kept up their strong play after an upset of No. 1 Duke, leading wire-to-wire in a win over Florida State.

The Miami Hurricanes might be the hottest team in college basketball, as they coasted to an easy win over a Florida State team that couldn’t get anything going offensively.

Jim Larranaga’s squad entered the day ranked No. 25, but they’ll climb. A team with losses to Florida Gulf Coast and Indiana State has now won seven straight, and are the last undefeated team in ACC play - in fact, they’re the only team with fewer than two losses in conference play. Florida State falls to 3-3 in-conference with the loss.
It was another dismal offensive effort for the Seminoles, just two games removed from a 36-point outing against Virginia. They shot 30.8 percent from the field - a 1-for-8 effort from center Kiel Turpin was the worst of the night - and just 3-of-17 from three. Point guard Montay Brandon had more turnovers than assists, and despite the team's shooting woes, they only grabbed four offensive rebounds on 36 missed shots. Miami just needed to perform reasonably well on offense - Trey McKinney-Jones led the way with a modestly efficient 15 points - to get an easy win.
The Hurricanes’ offense was hot from the start, as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead that would grow as big as nine. The offense was pretty evenly spread, with eight players scoring a field goal before the under-12 media timeout. Florida State would threaten, reeling off five straight to cut the lead to two at 28-26, but the Hurricanes bounced back with a 9-0 run of their own, including a layup and a three from McKinney-Jones, to give Miami a 37-28 lead at the break.
A layup by Kenny Kadji, who had sat some of the first half with foul trouble, pushed the lead to double-digits early in the second half, and it would stay there. Back-to-back threes by McKinney-Jones and Shane Larkin would push the lead to 16, and from there, the Seminoles were done, eventually trailing by as much as 23 in a game with plenty of garbage time.
