Southerland will remain benched due to academic issues, with caused the senior to be ruled ineligible prior to Syracuse’s win over Villanova on Jan. 12. He has been granted the opportunity to appear before a university panel on Feb. 7 in an attempt to regain eligibility, but the senior out of Bayside, N.Y., will be forced to sit out the team’s two games -- at Pitt and at home against Notre Dame -- before then.

Southerland is the Orange’s second-leading scorer, averaging 13.6 points per game while making 37.5 percent of his three-point attempts. In a win over Arkansas on Nov. 30, Southerland scored a season-high 35 points while shooting 9-of-13 from beyond the arc.

The Orange (18-2, 6-1 Big East) are 3-1 in Southerland’s absence, losing only to Villanova in overtime on Jan. 26.
