C.J. McCollum could be out 5-6 weeks

Lehigh guard C.J. McCollum has sustained a foot injury that could keep him out for most of the Mountain Hawks’ Patriot League schedule.

The Lehigh Mountain Hawks appeared to receive a significant blow Saturday, as coach Brett Reed told Andy Katz of ESPN that senior guard C.J. McCollum, the nation’s leading scorer, will require six weeks of recovery time if he sustained a break to the fifth metatarsal of his foot against the Virginia Commonwealth Rams.

McCollum sustained the injury on what appeared to be a fairly routine drive. While his take to the basket may have appeared normal enough, McCollum started to limp immediately following the play. He would be caught on camera telling teammates on the sideline that he had broken his foot.

If McCollum’s foot is broken, the injury could sideline him for five to six weeks. This would keep the dynamic scorer out for most of Lehigh’s Patriot League schedule.

Prior to suffering his foot injury, McCollum missed all five of his attempted field goals, including a pair of three-pointers. He finished the game with four points, all on free throws, with two rebounds and assists. On the season, McCollum has averaged 25.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
