No. 7 Syracuse shrugged off a sluggish start to put away South Florida on Sunday afternoon, 55-44. The Orange moved to 14-1 and 2-0 in the Big East.

Syracuse shot 36.5 percent from the floor, but that was enough Sunday.


The Bulls (9-4, 0-1) were impressive early and led by as much as 10 points when Jawanza Poland made a layup with 12:36 left in the first half to give South Florida a 17-7 lead. South Florida's first-half lead held as late as 15 minutes in, at which point a Victor Rudd jumper gave his team a 23-18 lead.
But Syracuse then scored 12 unanswered points, six of which Brandon Triche scored, to close the first half.
Early in the second half, the Bulls closed to within three points, but Syracuse quickly countered with a James Southerland 3-pointer with 18:15 to play. South Florida did not get within one possession after that.
Triche led all scorers with 20 points. Rudd led the Bulls with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Syracuse returns to play Wednesday at the Providence Friars.
