Illinois State’s Tyler Brown suspended for conduct detrimental to the team

The Redbirds will be without one of their best players for an unknown length of time.

USA TODAY Sports

The Illinois State Redbirds will have to get through an unknown amount of their Missouri Valley Conference schedule without one of their best shooters. The team’s second-leading scorer, Tyler Brown, has been suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team by head coach Dan Muller. No word on what led to Brown’s suspension.

Brown was averaging 15.3 points per game, good for second best on the team, in 27.4 minutes a contest for the Redbirds. The senior was also one of the team’s best free-throw shooters, hitting 79.4 percent of his shots from the charity stripe.

Brown dropped a season-high 36 points against the Northwestern Wildcats on Nov. 24, and followed that up with 25 and 22-point performances against the Louisville Cardinals and Wyoming Cowboys. Since then, Brown hasn't passed the 20-point mark, and he took just two shots against the Missouri St. Bears on Tuesday.

Illinois State is off to a bad start in conference play. They've dropped four straight to start the conference season and will look to erase the goose egg in the win column against the Drake Bulldogs this Saturday.
