No. 7 Syracuse vs. Providence final score: Orange avoid upset with 72-66 win

Four Syracuse players finished in double figures on the evening.

USA TODAY Sports

After trailing at half time, the No. 7 Syracuse Orange got things together in the second half, beating the Providence Friars on Wednesday night, 72-66. The Orange stayed perfect in conference play with the win, while the Friars are still looking to erase a goose egg in the conference win column.

C.J. Fair had a dominant game for the Orange, finishing with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Fair was not only good in the field but from the charity stripe as well, hitting nine of his 10 free throws. Michael Carter-Williams had 17 points of his own to go along with six assists, while Rakeem Christmas and James Southerland finished with 15 and 13 points. As a team, the Orange shot just 14.3 percent from beyond the arc, making three of their 21 shots from that range. The Orange did dominate the Friars on the boards, grabbing 36 rebounds to Providence's 22.

Just two players finished in double figures for Providence. Bryce Cotton led the charge with 24 points, while LaDontae Henton dropped 10 points of his own. Providence had a rough night from the free throw line, making just 65.2 percent of their shots.

Syracuse will face Villanova at home this Saturday, and the Friars will take on Seton Hall this Sunday.
