No. 6 Kansas vs. Iowa State final score: Jayhawks get big 97-89 overtime win over Cyclones

Six players finished the night in double figures for Iowa State, while five players were in double figures for Kansas.

USA TODAY Sports

The No. 6 Kansas Jayhawks needed a Ben McLemore three-pointer with just six seconds left to tie the game at 79 and force overtime. The Jayhawks outscored the Cyclones, 18-10, in the extra frame and escaped an upset with a 97-89 victory at home in their conference opener.

McLemore had a sensational evening in addition to his game-tying shot. The freshman knocked down a game- and career-high 33 points, and was a perfect 6-of-6 from beyond the three-point arc. Jeff Withey notched a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Elijah Johnson also scored a double-double, recording 12 points and 10 assists. Travis Releford and Kevin Young rounded out the Jayhawks in double figures, finishing with 12 and 10 points. Young also finished with 12 rebounds, tying a game high.

The Cyclones were also in their first Big 12 game of the year. The team spread the ball around generously, as six players finished in double figures. They were led by Melvin Ejim, who had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Korie Lucious knocked down 15 points of his own, including a late basket to put the Cyclones back up by three. Will Clyburn and Georges Niang also finished in double figures, with 16 and 13 points apiece. Chris Babb and Tyrus McGee both finished with 11 points on the night.

The Jayhawks head to Lubbock to face the Texas Tech Red Raiders in their next conference tilt on Saturday, while the Cyclones head home to face the Texas Longhorns on Saturday as well.
