Kevin Ware injury: Louisville guard expected to suit up in season opener

Louisville Cardinals guard Kevin Ware has returned to the court from a broken leg and should be able to play in the team’s season opener.

Louisville Courier-Journal-USA TODAY Sports

Louisville Cardinals guard Kevin Ware is expected to suit up for the team's Nov. 9 season opener against Charleston, coach Rick Pitino told ESPN. Thought Pitino said he was unsure if Ware would play, it's a good sign for the guard, who at the end of March suffered an open fracture to his right leg in an NCAA tournament win against Duke.

Ware was cleared to practice last week and should join the Cardinals for full practices beginning on Nov. 1. Currently, Ware is working out individually to get back into game shape.

The junior averaged 4.5 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in 2012-13 before breaking his leg in two parts in a gruesome injury that brought Louisville’s Elite Eight game to a halt. After undergoing surgery, Ware’s injury became a rallying point for the Cardinals, who went on to win the 2013 national championship.
