Former 5-star recruit Devonta Pollard lands in junior college

Once Alabama’s biggest recruit in a long while, Devonta Pollard’s troubled college career has him playing at a junior college this season.

USA TODAY Sports

Former Alabama Crimson Tide forward Devonta Pollard, a five-star recruit coming out of high school, has enrolled at East Mississippi Community College as he tries to get his troubled career back on track, Gary Parrish of CBS Sports reported on Monday.

Pollard was one of the biggest recruits for the Crimson Tide in the past decade, and although he showed glimpses of his potential, he never quite developed a serious role with Alabama his freshman year. Pollard left Alabama after he was one of seven people charged with kidnapping and abducting a minor in early May.

Pollard allegedly assisted in the conspiracy to kidnap a 6-year-old from East Kemper Elementary School. The child was taken from the school and later found in rural Mississippi unharmed. Details of the crime can be found here.

As Parrish reports, East Mississippi Community Colleges is one of the top junior college basketball programs in the nation and is the only school in the National Junior College Athletic Association to participate in the national tournament for the past four years. Pollard theoretically could make his way back into the NCAA, but he still has the charges hanging over his head. If he is convicted, he could receive a sentence of up to five years in prison.

Pollard averaged 3.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game for the Crimson Tide last season.
