Dana Altman has been successful at snapping up transfers to help his Oregon Ducks program, and his latest -- former Houston Cougars shooting guard Joseph Young -- will be eligible to play immediately rather than having to sit out due to NCAA transfer rules, according to Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle.

One of the most coveted college basketball transfers will be able to play immediately for Dana Altman’s Oregon Ducks.

The 6’2, 185-pound guard averaged 18.5 points and 2.5 assists per game last season but decided to transfer from Houston after his father was removed as director of basketball operations and reassigned by coach James Dickey. Michael Young, a former Cougar himself, elected to leave the program altogether and his son left with him.

Young's eligibility makes the Ducks more likely to surpass their projected fourth-place Pac-12 finish in the preseason media poll. He will team with sophomore shooting guard Damyean Dotson in the backcourt and could even challenge to start in front of Dotson as a 42 percent three-point shooter.
Young is one of several transfers that Altman has recruited to make Oregon a force in the Pac-12. Last year, the Ducks had Rice transfer Arsalan Kazemi coming off the bench. Along with Young, Altman will have UNLV transfer Mike Moser at his disposal.
