Villanova Wildcats shooting guard Dylan Ennis will miss six to eight weeks with a broken hand, according to Jeff Borzello of CBSsports.com.

The Wildcats’ backup shooting guard won’t be ready by season’s beginning in a few weeks.

Ennis, who sat out last season after transferring from the Rice Owls, broke his dominant right hand when he smacked it against freshman Darrell Reynolds' leg during a drill in practice. Villanova coach Jay Wright told Borzello that Ennis will be out at least four weeks, at which point Villanova will reassess the injury. The six- to eight-week range is more likely.
The injury ensures Ennis will miss at least a handful of games at the beginning of the season.
He was expected to be a part of the Wildcats’ rotation early on, backing up starting shooting guard Ryan Arcidiacono. Ennis averaged 8.5 points and 4.1 assists per game in his freshman season at Rice in 2011-12 before transferring to Villanova.
Villanova opens its season with four low non-conference games before participating in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas, where the Wildcats play the USC Trojans on Nov. 28 before a potential second game against the Kansas Jayhawks.
