Billy Donovan suspends two more Florida basketball players

The Gators may dress just five healthy scholarship players when they open their season next week.

A razor-thin Florida basketball team became even leaner on Thursday as head coach Billy Donovan announced the indefinite suspensions of transfers Dorian Finney-Smith (Virginia Tech) and Damontre Harris (South Carolina) for an unspecified violation of team rules.

No length was given for the suspension of either player, although a source tells ESPN.com that both are expected to miss the first two games of the regular season. The players join point guard Scottie Wilbekin, who is expected to be suspended for the first three games of the season, in Donovan’s dog house.

This latest bit of news means that the Gators might be down to five healthy scholarship players when they open their 2013-14 season against North Florida on Nov. 8. In addition to the three suspended players, Florida will be without ineligible freshman Chris Walker for at least the first half of the season, and guard guard Eli Carter (right leg) and forward Will Yeguete (right knee), who are both currently out with injuries.

Finney-Smith, Wilbekin and Walker all made appearances in SB Nation’s countdown of the top 100 players in college basketball. Florida was voted as the No. 10 team in the country in Thursday’s release of the preseason Associated Press Top 25.
