College hoops scores: Shabazz Napier notches second career triple double in win

All the ranked teams notched another victory on Monday.

Maddie Meyer

The Connecticut Huskies have a total of 10 triple-doubles in school history, and senior guard Shabazz Napier is now the proud owner of two of them.

Napier wasn't the only performer to dazzle the college hoops world on Monday night. Gary Bell of Gonzaga hit eight three-pointers in a win and Doug McDermott went off for 37 points.

Lets take a look at scores around the college world on Monday.

No. 6 Arizona 91, Long Beach State 57

Aaron Gordon sometimes gets lost in the national conversation of super-freshman because he doesn't attend Kansas or Kentucky, but the young forward is making a name for himself out West. Gordon had his second straight double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead the Wildcats.

Dan Jennings led the 49ers with 16 points. but the team had to fight tooth and nail for every point that went up on the scoreboard. They shot 27 percent from the floor and were out-rebounded 45-29.

No. 15 Gonzaga 93, Colorado State 61

Junior guard Gary Bell scored 24 points for the Bulldogs with all of them coming from beyond the arc as the Zags won their college tip-off marathon game by 30 points for the second consecutive year.

The Colorado State Rams were in a desperate search for offense after losing 80 percent of last year's scoring to graduation. Junior guard Jon Octeus finished with a game high 27 points, but the rest of the Rams' points came at a premium. No other Colorado State player ended with double digit points as the team struggled from the field, shooting 32 percent.

Providence transfer Gerard Coleman added 16 points for Gonzaga in a game where they leapt out to an early lead quickly and never took their foot off the gas.

No. 19 Connecticut 80, Yale 62

Senior Huskies guard Shabazz Napier had his second career triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists and three other Huskies scored in double digits for the win.

It was a big night for a lot of players against Yale. Freshman center Amida Brimah had seven blocks on the night, giving him 10 on the season in 39 minutes of play. Yale kept it close for the first 10 minutes of the game, with both teams struggling to score and sitting at 9-9. But what looked like a play-by-play aberration blew the game wide open when Niels Giffey hit four consecutive three-pointers, each assisted by Napier.

Miami 81, Georgia Southern 80 (OT)

The Miami Hurricanes came quite close to losing their second straight game in overtime. Manu Lecomte hit two free throws with nine seconds remaining in overtime to give Miami the lead and Jelani Hewitt couldn't continue his hot streak as his shot clanged out in the waning seconds.

Hewitt led the Eagles with 27 points and scored 10 of Georgia Southern’s final 12 points to force overtime, but the Hurricanes weren’t having any of it. They only missed one shot in overtime to barely squeak past the Eagles.

Creighton 96, UMKC 70

All-American senior forward Doug McDermott scored 37 points as the Bluejays blew past the Kangaroos. McDermott, who was second in scoring in college last year, was seven short of his career high of 44 points. McDermott is averaging 28.5 points in his first two games.
