The top 50 early season candidates for the John R. Wooden Award were revealed on Tuesday, with the Kentucky Wildcats leading the field with four nominated players.

The Kentucky Wildcats have four players on the list.


A panel of national college basketball experts compiles the list and all the players on the are considered strong candidates to make the midseason list and official ballot. The midseason list reduces the field to twenty players and the award is given out during the week of the Elite Eight.
The Wildcats lead the field with the most nominations, with Willie Cauley-Stein, Andrew Harrison, Julius Randle and James Young all make the list.
The Big 10 has the most considered players from a conference with ten, and the ACC has eight players on the list. The top five schools in the AP’s preseason poll, Kentucky, Michigan State, Louisville, Duke and Kansas, all have least three players on the list.
