Stanley Johnson commits to Arizona

The highly regarded Class of 2014 small forward announced his commitment to Arizona on Friday.

ESPNU

Elite 2014 prospect Stanley Johnson announced his decision to play college basketball for Arizona on ESPNU Friday. Johnson had originally planned to wait until the spring to make a commitment, but said last week he would join several other top players and make his choice on ESPNU’s recruiting special.

Johnson is widely regarded as one of the top 10 players in the 2014 class, and the California product was pursued by programs from across the country. He took visits to Arizona, Kentucky and Southern Cal in recent weeks before ultimately settling on the Wildcats. He also had offers from Florida, UConn, Kansas, Louisville, UCLA and Syracuse, among others.

Scout considers him the No. 2 small forward in the country, listing competitiveness and toughness among his strengths. Rivals analyst Eric Bossi likened him to a young Ron Artest for his physical toughness and intensity. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Johnson is the sixth-best overall player in the class.
