No. 3 Louisville continues to cruise through its non-conference schedule, vanquishing Cornell, 99-54. The Cardinals are now 3-0, having defeated Charleston and Hofstra to start the season.
Louisville vs. Cornell final score: Cardinals cruise, 99-54
Louisville started the game with a 22-2 run and never looked back.
Cardinals guard Wayne Blackshear led the way with 20 points, and combined with Russ Smith to score 12 points in the opening seven minutes of the game. In that time period, Louisville went up, 22-2, and never let Cornell back into the contest.
Much of Blackshear’s scoring output came from downtown; he hit four of his five three-point attempts. The Cardinals shot nine of 22 as a team from behind the arc, good for over 40 percent. The Big Red were not as good from deep, shooting just 25 percent on 28 attempts.
Louisville wingman Kevin Ware saw his first regular-season action, finally fully healthy after the gruesome leg break he suffered in March. In his debut., the junior played 13 minutes and scored five points.
Next up on the small-school carousel for Louisville is Hartford, who comes to the KFC Yum! Center on Nov. 19.
