Memphis vs. Oklahoma State final score: Marcus Smart scores 39 in Cowboys’ 101-80 win

The sophomore guard beat his old career high by 11 points.

Alonzo Adams-USA TODAY Sports

Marcus Smart had a career-high 39 points and the Oklahoma State Cowboys overwhelmed the Memphis Tigers, 101-80, on Tuesday.

It was expected to be a tighter game, especially considering that the Tigers boast one of the better and more experienced backcourts in the nation. But Smart started out absolutely shredding the Tigers’ defense and the staggering blow was something Memphis couldn’t recover from.

Smart scored 26 points in the first half, and for a solid portion of the first half had scored more points than the entire Memphis team. Markel Brown contributed 20 points and Brian Williams had 15 for the Cowboys.

Shaq Goodwin finished with 13 points for the Tigers, but the backcourt had a very quiet night. Geron Johnson was limited to two points on 1-of-10 shooting. Freshman forward Nick King led the Tigers with 23 points.

The Cowboys are averaging 102 points per game on the season.
