Massachusetts upset No. 19 New Mexico with a 81-65 victory in the Charleston Classic. The Minutemen improve to 5-0 on the season, riding 5'9 guard Chaz Williams' scoring punch. Williams finished with team-high 19 points, going 3-of-5 from deep and dishing out five assists.

Alex Kirk had a huge game for the Lobos, but Massachusetts went on a big run in the second half to seal the game.


Massachusetts pulled away in the second half on a huge scoring run. They held New Mexico scoreless from the 7:56 through the 1:35 mark when Kendall Williams made two free throws. The Lobos scored a total of four points over the final eight minutes.
Alex Kirk had a monstrous game for New Mexico. The 7'0 stretch-center went 4-of-7 from deep and finished with a game-high 32 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks.
Massachusetts spread the ball around, ending the game with three players scoring at least 15 points. The Lobos focused their offense around Kirk, who took 25 of their 60 total field goals. Only one other player besides Kirk reached double-digit scoring.
Massachusetts is off until Dec. 3 when it visits Eastern Michigan. New Mexico resumes play on Nov. 30 when it hosts the University of San Diego.
