No. 10 VCU vs. Long Beach State results: Rams storm back against 49ers, win 73-67
Down eight points in the second half, the Rams overcame the deficit behind a season-high 17 points from Juvonte Reddic.
WIth a jump shot by Branford Jones, the 49ers completed a 12-3 run that put them up eight points with 14:40 remaining in the second half. But VCU responded with a run of its own, scoring the next 13 points and never looking back. Treveon Graham scored seven of his 12 total points in the second half, teaming with Reddic to erase the deficit.
Both teams spread around the production, each getting double-digit performances from four starters. But the difference was the bench, as none of the 49ers’ reserves were able to score a basket. VCU got nine points from its bench, including seven from forward Melvin Johnson. Jones led the way for Long Beach, scoring 19 points in the losing effort.
VCU was steamrolled in its first game in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off in San Juan, losing to Florida State, 85-67. Now a narrow win against Long Beach will have the Rams’ highest-ever in-season ranking in serious jeopardy.
