The Davidson Wildcats kept it close for much of the first half but faltered late as the New Mexico Lobos won, 79-58, to take third place in the Charleston Classic on Sunday.
New Mexico vs. Davidson final score: Lobos take 3rd place in Charleston Classic, 79-58
New Mexico tightened up its defense to take third place in the Charleston Classic.

The Lobos had an up and down tournament. They needed two overtimes to take down the UAB Blazers and then fell to the Massachusetts Minutemen on Friday.
Things got back on track against the Wildcats as the Lobos pounded the ball inside against the undersized Wildcats. Lobos center Alex Kirk finished with 16 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks as New Mexico clobbered Davidson on the boards, 48-28. Four Lobos finished in double-digit points as the team shot 48.3 percent from the floor. It was Kirk’s fifth double-double of the year.
The Wildcats struggled without their leading scorer De’Mon Brooks. Brooks went down with a knee injury against Clemson on Friday. Brooks, the preseason Southern Conference player of the year, was averaging 16.8 points a game.
Davidson has had a rather brutal non-conference stretch to open up the season. They have played three games against ranked opponents already this season, and still have consecutive road games against the North Carolina Tar Heels and Wichita St. Shockers at the end of December.
