Guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored 26 points and led his team with four steals as the Georgetown Hoyas dropped the No. 10 VCU Rams, 84-80, on Sunday in San Juan. The Hoyas took the fifth-place game in the consolation round in the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip-Off Classic.

Hoyas guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera hit five threes to lead his team to a victory against the No. 10 VCU Rams.


Guard Markel Starks added 23 points and five assists for Georgetown, and center Joshua Smith plugged the paint on defense and contributed 17 points on offense.
Georgetown overcame 26 turnovers by shooting 56 percent from the floor and holding the Rams to 36 percent. Behind Smith-Rivera’s five three-pointers, the Hoyas had another edge behind the three-point stripe.
VCU was led by guard Briante Weber’s 22 points, four steals, six rebounds and three assists. The pesky Rams recorded 15 steals on the day, but struggled to score off the many Hoya turnovers. The loss was VCU’s second of the young season. Coach Shaka Smart’s Rams fell Thursday to Florida State and recovered to beat Long Beach State a day later.
