St. Francis Brooklyn upsets Miami, 66-62

The Hurricanes missed 15 three-pointers in an embarrassing loss to a team from the Northeast Conference.

An early candidate for upset of the year, St. Francis Brooklyn defeated the Miami Hurricanes, 66-62. Miami never led in overtime, and Jalen Cannon's basket with 1:02 left in the extra period gave the Terriers the lead for good.

For an upset like this to occur, a lot of things have to go incredibly wrong. To start, the Hurricanes lost their six best players following last season, including first-round NBA Draft pick Shane Larkin. On Friday, Miami's new squad shot 31 percent from the field and missed all 15 of their three-point attempts.

The upset occurred on the night Miami chose to unfurl last year's ACC regular season and ACC Tournament banners.

St. Francis wasn't immune from stretches of cold shooting either. The Terriers missed their first 13 shots, but still managed a narrow 27-26 lead. After building a 47-40 lead in the second half, the underdogs finally gave way to a 10-2 Miami run. Holding a two-point lead in the closing seconds, the Terriers gave up a layup to Garrius Adams to send the game to overtime.

St. Francis a school of around 2,600 students in Brooklyn Heights, New York. They play in the Northeast Conference alongside Robert Morris, who is known for an upset of their own.
