College basketball recruiting: Malachi Richardson chooses Syracuse

As the 12th-best prospect in the 2015 draft class, the forward has agreed to join Jim Boeheim and the Orange.

Malachi Richardson has given a verbal commitment to Jim Boeheim and Syracuse, according to Adam Finkelstein of ESPN. The 6’6 forward is the second 2015 commitment for the Orange, who have already inked forward Tyler Lydon.

The swingman chose Syracuse over offers from Indiana, Connecticut, Arizona, Rutgers and Villanova. Richardson was on-hand when the Orange crushed Indiana at the Carrier Dome earlier this month.

Richardson is a junior out of Trenton Catholic in New Jersey and is touted as a great shooter with range that extends well beyond the three-point line. He has a decent handle, according to ESPN, but needs to improve it so he has other options if the defense takes away his jumper. On the other end, his length should help him fit in perfectly with Boeheim’s famous 2-3 zone.

Richardson spends his summers with Team Final, the same AAU club that produced Rakeem Christmas, B.J. Johnson and Trevor Cooney.
