Greg Whittington will play for Eddie Jordan, Rutgers

The former Georgetown big man will play ball under the former Wizards and 76ers head coach.

USA TODAY Sports

Greg Whittington, the 6'8 power forward dismissed from the Georgetown Hoyas earlier this season, has decided to enroll at Rutgers, according to ESPN's Jeff Goodman.

Whittington averaged 12.1 points and seven rebounds per game as a sophomore before being declared academically ineligible and missing the NCAA Tournament. He tore his ACL this summer and has spent the time since recovering. Goodman writes that it's unclear how much eligibility he'll have remaining when he suits up for the Scarlet Knights. It should be at least one year, but you can bet Rutgers' compliance department will do everything it can to get Whittington an extra season.

From Goodman’s report:

“Coach Jordan welcomed me as family and so did the entire staff,” Whittington told ESPN.com. “The style of play is similar to Georgetown, but it’s more open and he likes to get out and run.”

“They will be in the Big Ten next year with a lot of competition,” Whittington added. “I like the players on the team, the campus was nice and they have a good fan base.”

Whittington would be a big piece for Rutgers, just 5-7 in Jordan’s first season as coach. Jordan has struggled to make a dent in national recruiting; Rutgers hasn’t recruited any four- of five-star players in the Class of 2014, according to Scout and 247sports. Whittington was a four-star recruit out of Columbia, Md.
