Duke redshirt sophomore Alex Murphy is transferring to Florida, the 20-year-old announced Wednesday morning. Murphy had alerted the school he was transferring two weeks ago, just two months into his third year in Durham.
Duke’s Alex Murphy to transfer to Florida
In his third season as a non-factor for the Blue Devils, Murphy will follow in his brother Erik’s footsteps and play for Billy Donovan.

A four-star recruit out of high school, Rivals ranked Murphy the 45th-best player and 15th-best small forward in the 2011 recruiting class. After deciding to sit out his freshman year, Murphy has toiled in obscurity since. Battling for playing time with Jabari Parker, Rodney Hood and Amile Jefferson, Murphy is averaging just over six minutes of playing time this season.
The way Coach K has been recruiting, Murphy's prospects at Duke weren't getting any better. The Blue Devils have the top recruiting class for the 2014-2015 season, likely forcing Murphy to fight for playing time into his senior season. Alex follows his brother Erik, who was a star in his four years playing for Billy Donovan at Florida. Erik is now a member of the Chicago Bulls.
