Baylor vs. Northwestern State final score: No. 12 Baylor wins OT thriller, 91-84

The Bears needed overtime and a scoring burst from Kenny Cherry to hold off Northwestern State.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

No. 12 Baylor dug deep to hold off Northwestern State, outlasting the Demons for a 91-84 overtime victory.

Keeping pace with Baylor for the entire contest, Northwestern State guard Jalan West knocked down a three with fourteen seconds remaining to send the game to overtime. The Demons were unable to complete the upset in the extra period, with Kenny Cherry scoring 12 of Baylor’s 15 points in overtime. Cherry finished with 20 points in the game.

Tied at 38 at halftime, Cory Jefferson scored nine points in the first four minutes of the second period to give Baylor a six-point lead. Northwestern State hung around thanks to West, who had 26 points on the day. Baylor's frontcourt bore the brunt of the load for the Bears, with Corey Jefferson and Rico Gathers combining to score 41 points. Both players hit more than half of their shots from the field and pulled down ten rebounds.

Northwestern State got most of their production from the guard position, with Zikiteran Woodley scoring 15 to go along with West's total.

Baylor -- who defeated Kentucky last week -- will play three more non-conference games before traveling to Ames to play Iowa State to begin Big 12 play.
