Drexel’s Damion Lee out for season with torn ACL

After an impressive showing at the NIT Season Tip-Off, Drexel has lost one of its key players for the season.

Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Drexel Dragons junior guard Damion Lee will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL, the school announced Monday. He suffered the injury in the second half of the Dragons' 66-62 loss to the Arizona Wildcats when he drove into the lane and his leg buckled while attempting to jump-stop.

Lee had been averaging 13 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists in Drexel’s first five games before the injury. He was third in the CAA last season as a sophomore with 17.1 points per game.

This is the second year in a row Drexel coach Bruiser Flint has lost a key player to injury. In the third game of the 2012-13 season, Chris Fouch broke his ankle and missed the rest of the season. Through six games this season, Fouch is leading the Dragons with 19.5 points per game.

Sophomore Tavon Allen started the first game without Lee, an 85-83 triple-overtime win over the Alabama Crimson Tide on Friday in the NIT Season Tip-Off's consolation game. Allen played 53 minutes that night, and he finished with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists.
