Opening the season as the eighth-ranked team in the country, Syracuse survived early tests from Minnesota, Cal and Baylor. Tyler Ennis has emerged as one of the country's best point guards, joining leading scorer C.J. Fair in a loaded lineup. With the progression of sophomore guard Trevor Cooney, Jim Boeheim may have his most talented team since the 2002-2003 title team led by Carmelo Anthony.
High Point, in its only game against a high-caliber opponent, was rolled by Georgetown, 80-45.
Here are some other notable games being played Friday:
Indiana vs. Nicholls State, BTN, 7 p.m. ET: Looking to bounce back from a loss to Notre Dame, the Hoosiers return home to play Nicholls State. Top recruit Noah Vonleh has lived up to the hype, nearly averaging a double-double with 12.4 point and 9.6 rebounds per game. Overall, Indiana is third in the country in rebounding.
Minnesota vs. Omaha, BTN, 9 p.m. ET: It’s all Hollins for Minnesota as the Golden Gophers are led by brothers Austin and Andre. The Gophers are undefeated at home, their lone losses coming to Arkansas and Syracuse in the Maui Invitational. Minnesota has struggled to find outside shooting this season, ranking 153rd in the country from behind the arc. The team will need to knock down shots if it is going to compete in the Big Ten this season.
SMU vs. Wyoming, ROOT, 9 p.m. ET: Reeling from a road loss against Denver, Wyoming squares off against a Larry Brown-led SMU team. Brown has SMU in the top ten in the country in field-goal percentage; the team is shooting over 50 percent on the season. SMU will host the Cowboys, hoping that hot shooting can continue.
